November 6, 13, & 20, 2025
12pm-2pm EST
Overview: In this 3-week (6-hour) workshop, you will learn how Maria creates and documents test tiles for glaze testing, with the goal of creating beautiful ceramic works of art, whether functional or sculptural. Maria will demonstrate how to make slab test pieces and discuss using an extruder and wheel to expand test tile options. Participants can use their favorite clay bodies and glazes without needing to purchase additional materials. This is also an opportunity to try new clays or glazes that you have been curious about. Weekly homework assignments will be given.
Goals:
Broaden participants' understanding of the importance of testing glazes.
Familiarize participants with different methods of creating tiles and forms for glaze testing using slabs, extruding, and throwing.
Demonstrate options for documenting tests for future reference and repeatability of glaze results.
Create new and unique glaze combinations.
Apply knowledge gained from testing to future ceramic projects.
Foster creativity and self-expression and remove the fear and disdain associated with glazing.
